Matching the Picture PDF Print E-mail
ImageLast night we did some cooking. The ingredients: a landscape image from the archives, 10 minutes for creating something in 3D and then.. trial and error. It´s not too difficult, the only thing annoying is finding the right perspective. But help is available.

First, we need a plane as, well, groundfloor, which we approximatly resize to a length towards the horizon, similar like in the picture. For handling, we switch the plane itself to wireframe display, so we can see through.

In the perspective-viewport, we add the picture as a background image and then we can tweak happily around, until it seems to be allright. At least approximately. Trail and error.

Image If it wil be fitting more or less, then we switch on the light. Take a deep look at the photograph, there will be shadows and dark areas inside, even if they are not so easily recognizable. Follow the lightbeam by guessing, where the source can be. Trial and error. Again and again.

It´s important for sure, to measure the color of the light, too, and we use a skylight and global illumination, to increase the level of realism at least a little bit in those short tests.

ImageFor now, its enough to add a "matte/shadow" material to the groundfloor plane, which will only display cast shadows, and if someone is still enthusiastic enough, its nice to tweak the shadow color a little bit. A little greenish touch will look better, if the ground in the photograph is fresh gras, wont it?
